For an aluminum processing plant in Jordan, we supplied and delivered a total of 9 overhead cranes, including 8 double girder overhead cranes and 1 single girder overhead crane, to meet the material handling and maintenance requirements of the cold rolling workshop, hot rolling workshop, and casting bay. The cranes are mainly used for lifting aluminum coils, aluminum rolls, and equipment maintenance operations. Some units are also assigned to charge slab reheating furnaces, operating in high-temperature environments of up to 400°C.

To meet the project's operating conditions and the client's strict requirements for lifting stability and operational safety, we provided a customized engineering solution. The cranes were equipped with anti-sway systems and multiple safety protection devices to enhance lifting stability and operational safety. For cranes operating on the same runway, infrared anti-collision systems were installed to ensure safe coordinated operation. For equipment used in high-temperature zones, semi-automated control systems and enhanced thermal protection measures were applied to ensure safe, stable, and efficient performance under complex working conditions.

Customer Key Requirements

  • Some overhead cranes in the hot rolling workshop are used for charging slab reheating furnaces, operating in environments up to 400°C, requiring semi-automatic control and high-temperature resistance measures.
  • High lifting stability is required; all cranes must be equipped with anti-sway systems. The hook must maintain vertical lifting without deviation during operation.
  • Multiple safety protection devices are required to ensure safe crane operation.
  • Main girders must be transported as a single piece without cutting or segmentation.

Customized Engineering Solutions

High-Temperature Resistance & Semi-Automation Design

  • High-temperature resistant cables: Special cables capable of withstanding continuous exposure to up to 400°C and strong thermal radiation were used. These prevent insulation aging, short circuits, and signal failures caused by extreme heat, ensuring stable power supply and reliable signal transmission in high-temperature workshops.
  • Thermal insulation operator cabin: The operator cabin was equipped with rock wool insulation layers, effectively blocking external heat and reducing internal temperature. This improves operator working conditions while protecting control components from thermal damage and extending service life.
  • Semi-automated control system: The system includes 37 preset positioning points, enabling precise crane movement along predefined paths to improve feeding consistency and operational efficiency. Meanwhile, manual hoisting control is retained to ensure operational flexibility on site.

Stable Lifting Solution

  • European-style overhead crane design: Variable frequency drive technology was adopted to ensure smooth acceleration and deceleration without mechanical shock, significantly improving operational stability in high-precision lifting conditions.
  • Anti-sway system: The anti-sway system works through coordinated control of PLC, inverter, and encoder. It continuously monitors load swing and automatically adjusts trolley and bridge movement during start, acceleration, deceleration, and braking. This effectively suppresses load swing at the source, reducing oscillation amplitude by more than 95%.

Safety Protection Systems

  • Anti-collision system: For multiple cranes operating on the same runway, all units are equipped with infrared anti-collision devices. When cranes approach a safety threshold distance, the system automatically alarms and slows down or stops operation to prevent collisions and improve coordination efficiency.
  • Load weight limiter: Continuously monitors lifting load. If the load exceeds the rated capacity, the system immediately triggers alarms and restricts operation to prevent overload damage and safety accidents.
  • Lifting height limiter: Prevents the hook from over-hoisting and colliding with the crane structure, protecting the lifting mechanism and ensuring safe operation.
  • Travel limit switches: Installed on both crane and trolley mechanisms to define safe operating boundaries and prevent derailment or out-of-track movement.
  • Hook safety latch: All hooks are equipped with safety latches to prevent accidental load detachment during lifting operations.

Main Girder Integral Transportation Solution

  • The main girder reaches a length of 29m, making it impossible to fit into standard containers. To ensure the integrity of transportation without cutting, bulk vessel shipping was adopted.
  • For transportation protection, the main girder was wrapped with waterproof tarpaulin. Electric hoists and electrical components were packed in wooden crates and shipped in containers to prevent damage during transit and ensure equipment integrity upon arrival.

  • All 9 overhead cranes passed SGS inspection, meeting international quality and safety standards and successfully completing final acceptance.
  • Equipped with anti-sway control and variable frequency drive systems, the cranes achieved smooth load handling and precise positioning, significantly improving operational safety and efficiency.
