Table of Contents
This project involves a 32T rail-mounted container gantry crane exported to Russia, mainly used for container loading, unloading, and transfer operations. Considering the extremely cold local climate, the main structure is made of Q355E low-temperature-resistant steel. The electrical system is specially designed for anti-cold performance, and a comprehensive safety protection system is equipped, enabling stable operation in ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to +40°C. The equipment fully meets the requirements for container handling in cold regions.
Core Procurement Requirements
The core requirement of the Russian client was not simply “to purchase a gantry crane capable of lifting containers,” but to obtain a complete and reliable solution that can operate stably in extreme low-temperature environments, reduce downtime, and adapt to local operating systems.
The client's concerns and requirements include:
Concern about whether the equipment could freeze, become brittle, or fail to start at -40°C. Therefore, a rail-mounted container gantry crane capable of operating reliably in -40°C environments was required for long-term outdoor use in cold regions of Russia.
Concern about mismatch with local operating habits and electrical standards, which could affect operation and maintenance. Therefore, the control system needed to feature Russian-language labeling and comply with local power supply standards for more convenient and efficient operation and management.
Concern about safety risks and potential failures during long-term operation, requiring a comprehensive safety protection system.
Concern about possible damage to key components during long-distance transportation, which could affect installation and commissioning. Therefore, a reliable packaging solution was required to ensure safe delivery.
Based on these concerns, a fully targeted system design and packaging solution was developed.
Customized Solution
Low-Temperature Adaptability Design
To ensure reliable operation under -40°C conditions in Russia, a dedicated low-temperature design was implemented:
Q355E low-temperature steel: The main structure uses Q355E steel plates, which maintain excellent impact toughness at -40°C, effectively preventing brittle fracture and ensuring safe and reliable operation in cold environments.
Low-temperature-resistant cables: The entire crane uses low-temperature cables that maintain flexibility and insulation performance in cold conditions, preventing cable hardening, cracking, and signal instability, thereby improving electrical reliability.
Motor heating system: Both hoisting and traveling motors are equipped with heating belts, enabling preheating and insulation in low temperatures. This prevents start-up difficulties and mechanical jamming, ensuring stable operation.
Insulated operator cabin: The cabin is well-insulated and equipped with air conditioning. Temperature can be automatically adjusted according to environmental conditions, ensuring operator comfort and improving long-term operational safety and stability.
Localization Design
To ensure ease of operation and local compatibility, the system was optimized for the Russian market:
Russian labeling: The video monitoring system and cabin control console are equipped with bilingual English and Russian labels, allowing local operators to easily identify functions and equipment status, reducing misoperation risk and improving maintenance efficiency.
Local voltage compatibility: The equipment is designed for 380V / 50Hz / 3Ph power supply, fully compliant with Russian industrial standards, ensuring direct installation and stable operation.
Safety Protection System
A comprehensive safety protection system was configured to ensure safe and stable operation:
Overload protection system: Real-time load monitoring with multi-level alarms and motion restrictions to prevent structural overload.
Dual limit protection: Hoisting and traveling limit switches to prevent overtravel and mechanical damage.
Emergency braking system: Emergency stop buttons on all four outriggers and a system-wide emergency stop function for rapid shutdown in emergencies.
Wind protection system: Wind speed sensor integrated with rail clamp system; automatic alarm and rail locking when wind exceeds safe limits to prevent sliding.
Electrical protection system: Includes overcurrent, overtemperature, phase loss, phase sequence error, undervoltage, and grounding protection to reduce electrical failure risks.
Transport Protection Design
Considering long-distance transportation to Russia, key components were specially protected:
The trolley is fully wrapped with tarpaulin to prevent rain and moisture damage. Hoisting and gearbox motors are fixed with shockproof foam to reduce vibration damage.
The gearbox motors of the traveling mechanism are first reinforced and secured with shockproof foam to ensure stability during transportation. An additional layer of waterproof tarpaulin is then applied to enhance protection against moisture and rain.
The insulated operator cabin and cable reel are packed in wooden crates to enhance impact resistance and prevent damage during transport.
This ensures that the equipment arrives at the site in a condition close to factory delivery status.
Delivery Results
The delivered 32T rail-mounted container gantry crane successfully met all key customer requirements:
Stable operation in -40°C low-temperature environments
Full compliance with Russian local electrical and operational standards
Comprehensive outdoor safety protection system
Good condition of key components after transportation, ensuring smooth on-site installation
The crane was customized according to the project requirements with the following specifications:
The project achieved unified performance in low-temperature adaptability, system compatibility, and transportation reliability. All key risks originally concerned by the customer were resolved during the design and manufacturing stages, and the equipment operates stably after commissioning.
Project Summary
The core of this project was not simply delivering a gantry crane, but providing a complete and reliable container handling solution for extreme cold environments.
Through low-temperature material selection, electrical system reinforcement, localized design, and transport protection, the equipment is not only “technically compliant,” but also “reliably operational in real-world conditions over the long term.”
