South Africa Special Vehicle Factory Project: 11 Overhead and Gantry Cranes Custom Solution

DGCRANE provided a customized lifting solution for a special vehicle manufacturing plant in South Africa, successfully delivering a total of 11 lifting units, including double girder overhead cranes, single girder semi-gantry cranes, and single girder overhead cranes.

Customer Procurement Requirements

1. Product Combination Requirements: The customer needs to simultaneously purchase double girder overhead cranes, single girder semi-gantry cranes, single girder overhead cranes, and other models, to meet material handling requirements in different workshop scenarios.
2. Localized Configuration Requirements: All equipment must be adapted to South Africa's 380V / 50Hz / 3-phase voltage standard.
3. Technical Support Requirements: Complete installation drawings and technical documentation are required to support the customer in carrying out installation and commissioning independently.

Customized Solution

1. Multi-Type Crane Solution for Workshop Material Handling

(1) Semi-Gantry Cranes: For Wall-Side Operations, Compact Design for Limited Space

For wall-side workstations, limited workshop space, and conditions where floor rails cannot be installed, semi-gantry cranes are used with a focus on space efficiency and operational safety:

• Equipped with an F-series vertical motor, featuring compact structure and high transmission efficiency, reducing leg footprint.
• Uses polyurethane-coated steel wheels, eliminating the need for rails. This design reduces floor wear, improves stability, and reduces noise. Guide wheels are installed on the end beams to prevent wheel deviation and ensure safe operation.
• Steel protective frame installed outside the ground beam motor to protect against accidental impact in complex workshop environments, improving durability and safety.

(2) High-Spec Double Girder Overhead Cranes: Smooth Operation & Low Energy Consumption

To meet the customer's need for two cranes operating in the same span and higher requirements for stability and user experience, we customized a high-spec double girder overhead crane. The design was improved in safety, performance, and energy efficiency.

• Equipped with an infrared anti-collision system. When approaching the safety threshold, the system automatically slows down or brakes to prevent collision.
• Variable frequency control for both hoisting and traveling ensures smooth, impact-free operation, with significantly higher positioning and control accuracy than standard overhead cranes.
• Operating noise is kept below 70 dB, creating a quieter workshop environment, with overall energy savings of up to 30%, reducing long-term electricity costs.
• Modular design for easier maintenance, lowering lifecycle maintenance costs and effectively extending service life.

(3) Standard Single Girder Overhead Cranes: High Cost-Performance

For applications requiring only basic functionality, stable operation, and simultaneous operation of three cranes on the same runway, a standardized configuration with optimized travel mechanisms is adopted to balance cost efficiency and operational needs:

• Uses standard single girder overhead crane with reliable structure and strong versatility, reducing procurement cost while fully meeting operational requirements;
• Both crane travel and trolley travel mechanisms are equipped with variable frequency drives, effectively reducing start-stop impact and ensuring smooth operation;
• Equipped with an infrared anti-collision system to eliminate collision risks during simultaneous operation of three cranes on the same runway, ensuring operational safety.

2. Adaptation to South African Operating Conditions

• Power system adaptation: All equipment is designed for 380V/50Hz/3Ph South African standard voltage to ensure full compatibility with the local power grid;
• Bilingual labeling: Nameplates and specification instructions for all mechanical and electrical components are provided in both Chinese and English, facilitating local operation and maintenance.

3. Full Documentation for Customer Self-Installation

• Complete technical document delivery: Full set of drawings is provided, including general arrangement drawings of the overhead crane (CAD format), main end beam assembly drawings, joint section drawings, electric hoist general drawings, and electrical wiring diagrams;
• Original factory documentation: Equipment is supplied with inspection reports, material certificates, packing lists, and component manuals in electronic format;
• Remote technical support: Continuous remote guidance is provided throughout the installation process, with prompt assistance for technical issues encountered.

Project Outcome: Customer Recognition & Long-Term Partnership Established

• All 11 cranes run smoothly with accurate positioning, effectively meeting the workshop's lifting requirements.
