This project is a hydropower station tender project in Kuwait. The crane will be used in an outdoor coastal area, where it is exposed to harsh operating conditions including high temperature, high humidity, high salt mist, and strong ultraviolet radiation. In addition, the main and auxiliary hooks of the lifting equipment are required to operate underwater at a depth of up to 15 meters, while also complying with the local 415V power supply standard.

Based on the site conditions and customer requirements, we have customized a 50t+20t double girder gantry crane for this project. The whole machine adopts a heavy-duty double girder structure, featuring large lifting capacity, stable operation, and high safety and reliability. At the same time, it has been specially optimized for the high-corrosion and high-temperature coastal environment in the Middle East.

The equipment has been comprehensively reinforced in terms of wind resistance, rain protection, salt spray resistance, high-temperature resistance, and anti-corrosion performance. In addition, the hoisting mechanism, waterproof sealing structure, and electrical control system have all been upgraded to ensure long-term stable operation under severe outdoor conditions. The crane fully meets the lifting and maintenance requirements for equipment such as pumps, motors, and valves in hydropower stations and seawater desalination plants.

Project Basic Information

This project is a government tender in Kuwait, involving the customization of one 50t+20t double girder gantry crane for a local hydropower station.

  • Application Location: Outdoor coastal area in Kuwait.
  • Operating Environment: High temperature, high humidity, high salt mist, and strong ultraviolet radiation.
  • Application Purpose: Used for lifting pumps, motors, valves, and other equipment in hydropower stations. The hooks are required to operate underwater at a depth of 15 meters.
  • The main hoist is used for lifting the heaviest equipment such as pumps or motors in power plants or seawater desalination plants. Considering a 10% allowance for rigging weight, the rated lifting capacity is 50 tons.
  • The auxiliary hoist is used for lifting secondary heavy items such as valves. With a 10% rigging allowance included, the rated lifting capacity is 20 tons.

Protective Measures for Outdoor Coastal Environment

  • All motors are designed with IP55 protection rating, equipped with anti-condensation heaters and heating belts. This prevents the ingress of moisture, vapor, and dust from the external environment, while also avoiding internal condensation. As a result, it effectively prevents winding dampness, short-circuiting, and insulation degradation, ensuring reliable motor operation under humid conditions.
  • All hoisting mechanism cables are designed to be fully enclosed and not exposed, using metal connectors and protective conduits. This prevents direct exposure of cables to strong ultraviolet radiation and high salt-mist environments, avoiding sheath aging and core wire corrosion.
  • The crane, including the main and auxiliary trolleys and cab trolley traveling mechanisms, is equipped with anchoring devices. When the crane is not in operation, these devices can lock the equipment in place to prevent unintended movement. This ensures safety against accidental sliding or wind-induced displacement.
  • The crane is equipped with manual rail clamps, anchoring devices, an anemometer (wind speed gauge), and a lightning rod. These systems provide comprehensive protection against wind, slippage, lightning strikes, and enable early safety warnings in extreme outdoor conditions, ensuring stable parking and operational safety.
  • Motors are additionally fitted with rain covers, preventing rainwater ingress and protecting motor insulation and mechanical components, thereby ensuring stable and reliable operation under outdoor working conditions.

High-Temperature Resistance Measures

  • The crane is equipped with an insulated electrical room and industrial air conditioning system, providing a controlled temperature environment for the electrical control system. This effectively prevents high ambient temperatures from affecting the performance and reliability of electrical components.
  • The insulated operator cabin with industrial air conditioning ensures a safe and comfortable working environment for operators, reducing heat stress and maintaining operational efficiency under extreme temperatures.
  • All motors are designed with Class H insulation and thermal protection devices. Class H insulation can withstand temperatures up to 180°C, enabling operation under higher thermal conditions. The thermal protection system automatically cuts off power when overheating occurs, preventing motor burnout and ensuring operational safety.
  • The crane uses high-temperature resistant cables, which can withstand thermal degradation of insulation materials. This prevents cable softening, aging, or short-circuit risks, ensuring safe and stable operation of the electrical system under high-temperature conditions.

Anti-Corrosion Measures

  • Steel Structure: All steel plates are treated with Sa2.5 grade shot blasting, which effectively improves paint adhesion and surface cleanliness. The minimum thickness of structural steel components is not less than 6 mm, ensuring structural strength and durability in harsh environments.
  • Coating System: A high-performance anti-corrosion coating system is applied, consisting of epoxy primer + chlorinated rubber topcoat. The epoxy primer is applied in 2 coats with a total thickness of 70 μm, and the chlorinated rubber topcoat is also applied in 2 coats with a total thickness of 70 μm, providing excellent resistance against corrosion, humidity, and salt spray.
  • Wire Rope: Galvanized steel wire ropes are used. The zinc coating acts as a protective barrier against moisture, oxygen, and salt mist, significantly reducing the rate of corrosion and rust formation, and extending service life under marine conditions.

Customized Design Based on Application Requirements

  • Crane Type: 50t+20t double girder gantry crane, Work Duty: A2
  • Power Supply: 415V, 50Hz, 3-phase
  • Applicable Temperature Range: -10°C to +55°C
  • Hoisting System: Equipped with a 50t main hook and a 20t auxiliary hook. Both hooks are designed to operate underwater up to a depth of 15 meters. The hook block pulleys and hook beam bearings are provided with waterproof sealing measures and treated with anti-corrosion coating to ensure reliable performance in underwater and high-humidity conditions.
  • Control Mode: Mobile operator cabin + remote control system. The remote controller is a joystick-type device with IP65 protection rating, effectively ensuring resistance to water and dust ingress for safe and reliable operation in harsh outdoor environments.
