Common types of electromagnetic cranes include single-beam electromagnetic cranes, double-beam electromagnetic overhead cranes, electromagnetic double-beam gantry cranes, and electromagnetic hanging beam cranes. Electromagnetic cranes are typically used in scrap steel recycling departments or steelmaking workshops.

Principle of Electromagnetism

Electromagnetic cranes achieve lifting by generating magnetic force through electromagnets. An electromagnet consists of an iron core, a coil, and a power source. When powered, the current flows through the coil, creating an electromagnetic field that magnetizes the iron core, giving it an adhesive force. The specific working principle is as follows:

• Lifting Objects: When the power source is turned on, the electromagnet generates magnetic force, firmly attracting the object suspended from the hook.
• Transporting Objects: After the electromagnet lifts the object, the crane moves along the track, driven by the rotating motor, transporting the suspended object to the destination.
• Placing Objects: Upon reaching the destination, the motor is stopped. Before returning to its original state, the power is turned off, causing the electromagnet to lose its magnetic force, placing the lifted object at the designated location.

Components of an Electromagnetic Overhead Crane

An electromagnetic crane consists of a magnetic circuit system, an electrical circuit system, and a mechanical system.

• Magnetic Circuit System: Composed of an iron core and a coil. The iron core serves as the magnetic circuit, and the coil generates a magnetic field through electrification to attract objects.
• Electrical Circuit System: Consists of power supply control and protection devices, providing power and ensuring safety.
• Mechanical System: Includes tracks, lifting machinery, motors, and transmission mechanisms, enabling the lifting and transportation of objects.

Working of Electromagnetic Overhead Cranes

• Before using the electromagnetic crane, ensure that all safety features of the crane are functioning properly. Check that all components of the electrical and mechanical systems are intact and in working order.
• Before starting work, strictly follow the operating procedures and ensure that the object to be lifted is suitable for being lifted with an electromagnetic chuck.
• During operation, pay attention to the balance of the lifted object, and try to avoid any sliding or tilting of the object that could cause unexpected situations with the crane.
• When operating the electromagnetic crane, prioritize personnel safety. The operator should avoid standing under the hook to prevent any injuries in case the object loosens or falls.
