Double Girder Gantry Crane(A Type)

The A-type double girder gantry crane has a maximum lifting capacity of up to 800 tons and offers several key advantages: high lifting capacity, spacious operating range, efficient use of yard space, low infrastructure investment, and reduced operating costs. As a large-scale loading and handling device widely used for outdoor material handling, it is extensively applied in industries such as mining, transportation, logistics, and construction.

A type double girder gantry crane 1

Specifications

  • Lifting Capacity: 5–800 tons
  • Span: 18–35 meters
  • Lifting Height: 10–22 meters
  • Duty Class: A5 / A6
  • Power Supply: 3-phase A.C., 50Hz, 380V

U-Type Double Girder Gantry Crane

With a lifting capacity of up to 50 tons, the U-type double girder gantry crane is suitable for general loading, unloading, and material handling in open yards and along railway lines. Its wide leg spacing allows for the efficient handling of large-sized items. Additionally, the omission of a saddle frame in its structure reduces the overall height of the crane without affecting the lifting height.

U type double girder gantry crane 2

Rail-Mounted Container Gantry Crane (RMG)

Rail-mounted container gantry cranes are widely used in ports, terminals, railway freight yards, and logistics hubs for handling and transferring ISO standard containers and wide railway containers. Available in various configurations—such as upper-rotation (trolley rotation), lower-rotation (spreader rotation), cantilevered, non-cantilevered, and railway-specific types—these cranes offer versatile functions, high efficiency, reliable performance, wide operating range, and easy operation and maintenance.

Rubber-Tyred Container Gantry Crane (RTG)

The rubber-tyred container gantry crane is designed for handling and transferring ISO standard containers in ports, terminals, and logistics hubs. Mounted on inflatable rubber tires, it is typically powered by a diesel generator, with optional power sources including cable reels or lithium batteries. It offers wide operational coverage, strong ground adaptability, and excellent mobility—capable of straight travel, lateral movement, 0–90° steering, and on-the-spot rotation.

Rubber Tyred Container Gantry Crane 2

Shipyard Gantry Cranes

The shipyard gantry crane is a specialized lifting device used in shipyards for hull section lifting, assembly, and in-air turning operations, typically working over docks, slipways, or assembly platforms. Due to its large span, the gantry frame usually adopts an asymmetric leg design—one rigid leg rigidly connected to the main girder, and one flexible leg connected via a hinged joint to accommodate structural movement.

This crane is typically equipped with two trolleys: an upper and a lower one. Each trolley travels on separate tracks, and the lower trolley can pass beneath the upper trolley, allowing for flexible operations.

MG 32-Ton Gantry Crane Delivered to Indonesia

The project originated with an initial inquiry for hook blocks in 2020. After technical exchanges and solution proposals, the customer submitted a tender request for a gantry crane to be used in a steel billet handling application at a steel plant.

The original design specified a 20-ton upper-rotating gantry crane with domestic-brand components. Over the course of five months, the project scope evolved to meet updated requirements:

  • The crane capacity was increased to 32 tons
  • The design changed from upper rotation to lower rotation
  • Equipment configuration was upgraded to use well-known European brands
  • Additional technical features were incorporated as requested

The final solution was customized to match the working conditions and operational standards of the end user, ensuring efficient and reliable billet handling.

Heavy Duty Gantry Crane FAQ

Is a Heavy Duty Gantry Crane just a gantry crane with large lifting capacity?

Not exactly. Heavy duty gantry cranes are defined more by their working class (A7/A8) than by tonnage alone. In the crane industry, “heavy duty” refers to cranes built for high-frequency, high-load operations, not simply those with high rated capacity. A crane may lift heavy loads but still not qualify as “heavy duty” if it operates infrequently. So, it's about performance under tough conditions—not just size.

What are the common issues to watch for in Heavy Duty Gantry Cranes, especially under frequent use?

Although DGCRANE's heavy duty gantry cranes are manufactured to high-quality standards for demanding, high-frequency operations, regular maintenance is essential to ensure long-term reliability. Common problems typically arise in key components such as brakes, couplings, motors, wire ropes, electrical systems, and gears.

Our detailed analysis identifies 10 critical parts that must be regularly inspected and maintained to prevent breakdowns and extend crane lifespan. These checks are particularly important for cranes operating under heavy duty classifications (A7/A8), where intense use accelerates wear.

For a full overview and maintenance tips, you can read our in-depth guide here: A Closer Look at Gantry Crane Failures – 10 Components You Must Check

What are the main differences between Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes and Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes?

Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes and Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes are two common types of container gantry cranes, each with distinct features suited for different operational needs:

• Mobility:
RMG cranes operate on fixed rails, providing precise, stable movement along predetermined paths. This makes them ideal for terminals with fixed layouts and high throughput demands.
RTG cranes have rubber tires, enabling them to move freely within container yards without requiring rails. This flexibility suits yards with variable layouts or limited infrastructure.

• Installation and Infrastructure:
RMG cranes require the installation and maintenance of rail tracks, which can be costly upfront but beneficial for high-volume, consistent operations.
RTG cranes need no rails, reducing initial infrastructure costs but may have higher maintenance due to tire wear and ground conditions.

• Operational Efficiency:
• RMG cranes generally offer higher lifting speeds and greater precision due to rail guidance, optimizing stacking and container handling efficiency.
RTG cranes offer versatility in yard management but may have slightly lower speeds and accuracy.

• Environmental Impact:
RTG cranes are often diesel-powered and may have higher emissions, although electric RTGs are increasingly available.
RMG cranes tend to be electrically powered with lower emissions.
